Three Things to Know Before You Buy LED Bulbs
1: Check the Size
Not all LED light bulbs are the same size as your existing halogen light bulbs. Some reflector bulbs from Philips and Megaman are slightly larger than normal halogen bulbs, so check the dimensions of the bulb before you buy as it might not fit in your light fitting.
If you are concerned about this, all EXERGI LED light bulbs are exactly the same size as normal GU10 and MR16 (GU5.3) light bulbs.
2: Check the Lumens
The lumen output of the bulb is a measure of its brightness. The higher the figure, the brighter the LED light bulb. Also, check the beam angle - some LED light bulbs give a false impression of brightness as they have a very narrow beam, resulting in a bright light but that is only very narrow in size.
3: Careful with the Watts
With LED light bulbs, you can't rely on wattage to measure how bright the bulb is. Always check the lumen output as some LED bulbs are more efficient than others, so produce a brighter light from a lower wattage.
