EU RoHS Regulations and Removal of Harmful Substances from Energy Saving Light Bulbs

The United Kingdom and European Union have adopted the RoHS (Restrictions on the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment) directives.

Effective on July 1st 2006, RoHS bans the use of certain hazardous materials such as lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in electronic products sold in Europe.

Megaman launched the worlds first RoHS compliant bulb in April 2005 and all products sold by Litebulbs comply to the RoHS directives, meaning our energy saving light bulbs do not contain harmful chemicals. Many cheaper imported energy saving light bulbs do not comply with these regulations, meaning that if you buy your energy saving light bulbs from Litebulbs.co.uk, you can be sure that they are safe.

Mercury in Energy Saving Light Bulbs

Additionally, Megaman light bulbs have been designed with lead-free glass tubes and ultra-low mercury levels (less than 3mg) to further enhance the green attributes of each product.

In fact, due to the mercury generated by fossil-fuel power stations, energy saving light bulbs are responsible for less mercury polluting the environment than traditional incandescent light bulbs.
